Wood Buffalo Society for Christian Education

OUR MISSION

To see the children and youth of Fort McMurray develop a biblical worldview by being given the opportunity to reflect the desires, beliefs and behaviour of a Christ-centred life throughout their education.

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6

The Fort McMurray
Christian School

FMCS is an ECDP-9 Interdenominational Christian Public Alternative School operating as an alternative program of the Fort McMurray Public School Division. Our Christian curriculum framework called 'Teaching for Transformation' infuses Christian perspective, values, and worldview into our classrooms.

FMCS is affiliated with Prairie Centre for Christian Education, as well as the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta (AISCA).

Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path…Psalm 119:105

Teaching for Transformation

Wood Buffalo Society for Christian Education and FMCS partner with Prairie Creek Center for Christian Education. They exists to encourage and empower Christian school communities as they equip students to play their part in God’s Story. At Fort McMurray Christian school we follow Teaching for Transformation developed by the PCCE. While meeting the Alberta Education guidelines, Tft infuses Christian perspective, values, and worldview into our classrooms and courses.

Deep Hope

Our teachers annually create a "Deep Hope" for their classrooms. A Deep Hope is your heart-level vision for your students’ lives, not just their learning rooted in God's story. Each Deep Hope connects to our school wide Storyline for the year!

FLEx Projects

FLEx stands for formational learning experiences. Each year our school and classrooms will create and partake in FLEx projects. These projects take their faith and learning turning it into action. These are experiences that connect our learning/work to real people/problems (to go beyond our normal classroom walls). These are authentic opportunities for students to practice living the Kingdom story.

ThroughLines

Our 10 throughlines help our students to see where each of them are in God's story and to live that story. Throughout the year their are dedicated weeks to each of these throughlines that are learned about, and celebrated in the classrooms and Worship Wednesdays! Students who exemplify a throughline are recognized and rewarded.
